Schematic design for a commercial development with a slatted-wood streetfront and courtyard.
The concept uses a warm wood-slat interface to reorganize the street-facing edge, turning the building from a simple commercial frontage into a more recognizable urban corner. The wood screen visually unifies tenant entries and signage, while its layered, semi-transparent quality softens the storefront condition and creates a gentler transition between the street, retail spaces, and pedestrians.
The inner courtyard becomes the social anchor of the project. Retail frontages open toward a landscaped courtyard, where shaded seating, planting, and pedestrian circulation come together to create an outdoor setting for gathering, resting, and casual interaction. The design balances street visibility with interior experience: the exterior edge supports commercial presence, while the courtyard creates a warmer everyday place to stay, transforming the project from a row of storefronts into a more inviting community gathering space.
